I get a lot of emails and comments from people who tell me that they have trouble spotting either because there are too many girls, or the girls are of a size that it’s become really difficult to spot them well and they ask me for my suggestions.
Well Tumbl Trak did this really nice video of easily a couple dozen drills to help gymnasts develop their confidence and technique for round off back handsprings. This best part of the video? No spotting anything. Also it shows lots of different ways to set things up, the more I watch things like this, the more ideas I get for how I change around current drill set-ups with new mat configurations etc.
This is also a set-up a really like because I think especially when you let beginners go on their own, with a pac man or otherwise the biggest thing that gets missed is a handstand. With this drill that’s actually the part of the skill that’s emphasized.
If you’d like even more basic tumbling drills – you should check out “Beginning Tumbling – Where to start with preschool and rec (from handstands to back tucks)” it’s 94 minutes of easily taught drills and progressions that will lead to bigger and better tumbling.
