My biggest pet peeve

Hi All,

So today I am going to admit what is possibly my biggest pet peeve in gymnastics….BENT KNEES IN LAYOUT STEP-OUTS. Oh..my…goodness, they hurt my eyes. I know, I know, that’s harsh. But they are BY FAR my least favorite skill to watch done poorly (except those that are ugly/scary because they’re dangerous). So let me demonstrate (well, not me).

This first video is a nice layout (ignoring the fall) by an eight year old. It has the TINIEST of tiny knee bends in the middle. But I’ll forgive her that. But it’s nice and floats a little, and well, most important doesn’t look like a flying squirrel.

This second video is a nice drill for layouts especially when you dont want kids doing 300 of them a day. It’s a great side station for beam, even if you’ve got limited space. Really, really, REALLY drive the point home of locking their knees!

Train hard!

Waiting to put layouts on the beam
