Making It Doable

Hi All,

Today I want to talk a little bit about making things doable. Most of us at some point or another have had the experience of making something so big in our heads that it just seems “not possible.” That isn’t something any of us like hearing in the gym, but I know you all know the feeling. So today I’m going to share a couple video examples of making things doable for your gymnasts.

This first one is a perfect example. Jumping to the high bar, especially for little ones can just seem like it’s impossible. So a great way to start (and to get them jumping the same distance) is to have them start from a floor bar, and jump to a raised low bar. There you can work shape, confidence, and they can do a million of them in a totally “doable” setting.

This second one is a really nice way (and one of my favorites) of making double backs into a doable skill. There is so much confidence that can be gained in doing drills like these, and it makes them feel much more manageable for the girls. There is no reason to overwhelm when first starting things like double backs. Make it feel doable.

Train hard!
