Teaching pirouettes with good shapes

Hi All,

Today I’m going to talk a little about pirouetting. Specifically getting kids comfortable being on one hand. Getting gymnasts to the point where they can push through their arm and shoulder, keep a straight body and feel confident on one hand can be hard. Here are a couple drills that may help.

Once your kids can back extension roll well this is a drill I like. I think it helps build confidence well, and also gives the kids a lot of awareness training that doesn’t necessarily need to happen when they are on the bar.

This second video is a drill I’ve posted before. But Tom Forster does a good job of explaining what he wants to see and what he doesn’t. Primarily, just a little lean, and no kinks in the body at all.

Train hard!
