Today I thought I would do a quick post on some ideas for developing straddle cast handstands. I know a lot of people are beginning to work these more now that season is over and it’s always nice to have a few more stations to reinforce the idea.
I really, really like the first drill in this video – it’s a great way to really emphasize that the hips have to rise. The straddle to close against the post is a really nice one to use too.
This video combines both cast handstand drills and press drills. Again, the one on tumble track is a nice one because their hips have to get over their heads, and they can also start figuring out where exactly verticle is.
This is just another version of a drill where they have to get their hips over their hands. The thing I like about this drill is the amount of control they have to have to come down to their knees without slamming down.
This last one is a nice way to start translating it into more of what they’ll feel on the bar – and it does a great deal to work their shoulders.
