New ideas for flexibility training for gymnasts

Hi All,

Today I’m going to share a few videos on flexibility training. Flexibility training is imperative to your gymnasts development. I often find in gyms that it is stressed in the lower levels but as gymnasts move up in the optional levels it often gets passed over for more time doing skill work etc. Don’t skimp on the flexibility training, make it a priority in your gym, during your practices etc. Limited flexibility can lead to gymnasts not being able to do certain skills or certain types of skills etc.

This first video is a nice one that Rebecca Sykes put up. There are LOTS of ideas in here. It’s worth watching the whole thing. There is sure to be something in there you can appreciate and use. Here is the link Andrea Seright’s blog. She’s the one who made this wonderful video.

This second video is one that Mary Lee Tracy put up. I’m a huge fan of partner stretching when it is done correctly. It’s something that’s easy to add to the end of your warm-up or the beginning of your beam rotation. It’s worth it too.

Hi- this is my photograph of Ksenia Afanasyeva. I took it in Rotterdam in 2010 in the training halls of the World Championships. Please attribute it to The Couch Gymnast or remove it. Thanks.
