Quick Tip: Things to add to your beam warm-up

Hi All,

Today I’m going to talk a little about two quick things I think people should add to their beam warm-ups. Everyone has their own style when it comes to designing warm-ups. What they want to see, what they want their gymnasts to work on etc. But I feel like these two things are things that everyone can benefit from. And they are SO FAST.

The first one of these is jump 1/4 turns. I recommend doing things both directions. 1) They help your gymnasts be a lot more confident during turning jumps 2) they have to jump and land every direction. You can also do 1/2s and 1/1s if you have time. Your jumps will improve dramatically, and so will your gymnasts confidence. [Click on the photo to make it larger]

Quarter turns 1
14 turns 2

The second one is ring kicks. Again on both legs. While they are good for things like sheep jumps, switch rings etc. they are also great for artistry. Teaching your gymnasts how to lose sight of the beam and be comfortable doing it can mean improvements in artistic movement, confidence etc.
