Teaching back tumbling to gymnasts without pounding

Hi All,

Today I’m going to talk a little about different ways of accomplishing the same thing. Specifically today I’m going to share a few videos of ways to improve back tumbling. In neither of these videos are the kids actually tumbling. I’ve posted both of these drills before but 1) these are different examples and 2) I think the are two VERY solid drills to come back to over and over again.

Fun Friday

This first one is probably one of my favorite back tuck/layout drills. With team kids I basically try to have them do it every day. I think it reinforces the muscle memory VERY well, and also engages the necessary muscles while still limiting the pounding by kids not taking so many landings.

This second one is just a super fun way to teach air awareness, and again I’ve posted it before. It’s good for first teaching layout shapes, and after that it’s a great way to introduce double backs, and help kids learn air awareness in a fun way.

Train hard!
