It must be trained

Hi All,

Today I’m going to talk a little bit about endurance, especially on bars. Endurance is INCREDIBLY important, and not just in optional routines. Teaching kids how to swing strong the whole way through a routine is definitely an undertaking but it’s worth it. It will pay off in their gymnastics in the long term.

This first video, is one of a gymnast doing 8 clear hips in a row. Mind you, no routine you’ll ever find will have eight clear hips, but it’s great endurance training. How many of your athletes could do eight in a row? It’s definitely something to strive for.

Alright now watch this second video. A brilliant level ten bar routine. It has 16 skills in it. The new level 5 bar routine has 11 skills in it. That means we need to be training kids to do 10+ skills before getting off the bar. In my opinion this means more endurance work, less chalking up between every 2-3 skills, longer skill sets in complexes etc. If we want kids to be able to get through a routine of 16 skills, we need to prepare them to do it.

Train hard!

Fun Friday #11

Hi All!

So I usually try to keep my commentary on Fun Friday’s brief. This week kind of accidentally had a commonality in level, these are both level 8 routines. They’re just fun. Hopefully they’re as fun for you to watch as they were for me.

This first bar routine, GAH, I just want to put it on repeat sometimes. It’s amazing. And I keep coming back to it.

This second video is a lovely level 8 floor routine. Haven’t really figured out why yet, but I’m a big fan of layout 1/2 punch fronts at level 8.

Have you guys found any fun routines this week?

Fun Friday #10 (Oops)

Hi All,

So this week kind of got away from me, and I ended up skipping Fun Friday yesterday! Gahh, unimaginable! Here are some fun videos I’ve been wanting to share.

This first one is a beautiful level 6 from Gym-Max a few years ago. Truly a treat to watch.

The second is a routine from a girl out of Colorado Aerials. Clean, interesting, fun to watch!

Have a good weekend!

Fun Friday #3

Hi All!

I just LOVE Fun Fridays! It the time of the week I get to share all the new cool/fun videos I’ve found that don’t really fit in any other category.

This first video is one of my favorite, favorite, favorite floor routines. I wish I could have found a version of it with less commentary, but neverless it’s worth watching. The choreography is just great!

For the second video: I know I don’t post a lot of elite stuff on here. But this is TOO MUCH FUN to watch. Seriously. I watched this routine like four times in a row when I first saw it. Tell me what you think!

What are your favorite videos? Feel free to post links!
