Spotting Block – Bars Side Stations

Hi All,

I hope you are all having a fantastic week and taking a well deserved break for Thanksgiving. It’s easy to get caught-up in the day-to-day gym stuff and forget how lucky we are to be doing what we love. This year I am especially thankful for all of you – the community that surrounds Swing Big! – you inspire me every day to continue this blog because of the your thirst for knowledge. Thank you so much for being such loyal readers!

Spotting block bars side stations

Alright, onto today’s topic. I know lots of coaches (myself included) are always looking for new bars side stations. Often we don’t have a lot of space – and it’s hard to figure out what to do where. So today I thought I would share two quick drills that you can do with spotting blocks, because those are very frequently by bars.

This first video is one of my favorite cast handstand drills. 1) It’s great for shoulder development 2) It helps them learn how to get their hips up 3) They HAVE to lean in order to do it. You can also have them do it on a bar – and fall over onto a soft mat.

This second one is a nice one for cut-backs. And really for weight shifting in general. In order to be able to do it – they’ll have to be pushing down – AND have shifted their weight. It’s a good place to practice that’s not on a bar.

Train hard!
