Beam can be a really fun event to coach, it can also be incredibly frustrating. Here are a couple of things that might make your beam better/be fun ideas to implement.
This first video is from Mary Lee Tracy. The idea is to dance into and out of your skills on beam. If kids are trained to work into and out of skills it can help eliminate those nasty concentration pauses, and make your routines flow a lot more nicely.
This second video can be a fun variation on doing dozens of handstands on beam. Handstand walks in all directions (forward, sideward, backward) can be a fun way to break up the monotony, and also help improve your athletes strength in their handstand position, body awareness, and ability to save certain skills.
